Ngahuia is a prominent Māori scholar, curator, award-winning writer and activist, and one of the leaders of New Zealand’s 1970s women’s liberation movement who continues to be a fierce advocate for Māori and Pacific women, and for lesbian rights. She is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Waikato, the first female Māori Emeritus awarded by a university in Aotearoa.
