A grassroots sporting franchise forming deep roots in their Los Angeles community across education, equity, food security and more, US Women’s League club Angel City was established in 2020 and played their first season in 2022. “Football is our passion and the vehicle we use to speak to our community. Our purpose is to set higher expectations, and it guides us to strive for better in everything we do,” they say. Co-founder and President Julie Uhrman speaks with Megan Compain about the groundbreaking football women changing the landscape.

Former NZ footballers Sarah Gregorius and Rebecca Sowden, and winner of the 2023 Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Award Latayvia Tualasea Tautai, are immersed in campaigns looking to set the record straight.  Sarah, who is FIFPRO’s Director of Global Policy and Strategic Relations for Women’s Football, is at the forefront of the #ITS PERSONAL anti-discrimination campaign; Rebecca leads Correct the Internet, a movement to ensure that women’s achievements that have been traditionally side-lined are given their rightful place; Latayvia has been a spokesperson for the MindTheGap campaign pushing for pay equity. They talk activism and empowerment with Judy O’Brien.
